Jack Brereton MP welcomes the announcement of the 30mph speed limit extension on Lightwood Road. This extension will start from St Matthews C of E Primary School to Swynnerton Arms and will be in place from 17th April 2024.
Currently, the speed limit on most of Lightwood Road is 30mph, however, it becomes 40mph close to the City boundary at St Matthews Primary School through Rough Close.
For years, residents have been raising their concerns regarding vehicles speeding on Lightwood Road, especially outside the primary school, and only last week there was another accident on the crossroads. This is an important issue which local Councillors, and Jack Brereton MP have been repeatedly pressing for further action from Staffordshire County Council, Stoke-on-Trent City Council, and Staffordshire Police to address the speeding on Lightwood Road.
Jack Brereton MP, Cllr Faisal Hussain and Cllr Ian Parry have collectively welcomed the delivery of the extended 30mph speed limit on Lightwood Road from St Matthews to the Swynnerton Arms that will be implemented this week.
Jack Brereton, Member of Parliament for Stoke-on-Trent South said:
“As a resident of Lightwood myself, I am extremely concerned about vehicles driving too fast down this road and I know these are the concerns of local residents.”
“Alongside Cllr Ian Parry and Cllr Faisal Hussain, I am pleased our calls for action have been heard and Staffordshire County Council will be changing the speed limit to 30mph from St Matthews Primary School to the Swynnerton Arms.”
“This will be a relief to parents and teachers of St Matthews who I know have been worried about vehicles speeding outside the school.”
“Residents on Lightwood Road will also be pleased with this announcement, and I will continue to work with Cllr Faisal Hussain, and Cllr Ian Parry to ensure this speed limit extension is enforced.”
Cllr Faisal Hussain, Meir South & Lightwood said:
“I’m really glad to finally see the speed limit reduction being implemented by St Matthews school on Lightwood Road.”
“I have been tirelessly campaigning for this change as it was seriously concerning to see such a speed limit outside a built-up residential area, particularly outside a school. This is welcoming news, and I would like to thank everyone involved in helping to make this happen.”
Staffordshire County Councillor, Ian Parry said:
“Getting this speed reduction has been a priority for some time. It will improve safety at the busy junction near to St Matthew’s School.”
