The challenges in moving local residents to cleaner, green vehicles were top of the agenda when Stoke-based Central Contracts, a vehicle leasing company with over 25 years’ experience in the area, welcomed their local MP Jack Brereton to their Trentham premises. The visit, held on Friday 22nd of March, saw the company’s Managing Director, Mike Lloyd, host Mr Brereton to highlight the business’ key presence in the regional leasing sector, and to discuss where the government can further support the transition towards sustainable transport.
The discussions were focussed on the move towards zero-emission vehicles, such as electric cars, as well as on how Stoke’s transport network can be improved to support this transition. Concerns over how effective the public transport system is were raised with the Member of Parliament for Stoke-on-Trent South, with the key role of leasing companies in supporting that system, and alleviating the reliance on private vehicle ownership, also discussed.
Jack Brereton, MP for Stoke-on-Trent South, said:
Meeting the people and businesses that make Stoke-on-Trent thrive is always hugely rewarding. It was a privilege to see the incredible work delivered by Mike and the Central Contracts team, supporting motorists to find the best possible deal. It was particularly good to hear about the work they are doing to support the transition to cleaner lower and zero emission vehicles, to help deliver on our national environmental commitments.
Mike Lloyd, Managing Director of Central Contracts, commented:
We have been providing cars and vans to people in Stoke and beyond for nearly 30 years. Never before have we seen such constant change and upheaval. Being able to offer our customers exceptional service is at the heart of what we do, and maintaining that during the generational shift towards zero-emission vehicles is a big challenge that is fundamentally changing how our customers choose to travel.
“Knowing that our local MP is on our side and open to hearing more about how the Government could support us is invaluable. We are grateful to Jack for taking the time to visit Central Contracts and support businesses in his local area.
Tom McLennan, Head of Policy and Public Affairs at the BVRLA, said:
Vehicle leasing businesses like Central Contracts, with extensive experience and deep-rooted ties to their local area, are such a vital component to helping communities and businesses get on the move. This is an incredibly important time for the future of British mobility, in which electric vehicles and shared mobility solutions form the crux of meeting our net zero targets. It’s great to see Jack engage with his local area’s important transport providers, and we hope to work with him further to secure a sustainable future for British transport.
