Stoke-on-Trent South MP Jack Brereton focused on Stoke-on-Trent’s budding rail network in his question to the Prime Minister this week, as he was one of the few MPs selected to put his query forward.
The question Jack asked was:
“A new Railway station in Meir. An upgraded station in Longton. A new line stretching from Stoke to Leek. Will the Prime Minister agree with me that investment from this Government has the potential to reverse the Beeching cuts and restore the local railways of Stoke-on-Trent to cement our position as one of the best connected places in the entire UK.”
In response, the Prime Minister said:
“Yes, and I thank my Hon. Friend; I know he supported the bid for the reinstatement of the Stoke-Leek line. It’s currently being assessed by the Department for Transport as one of the Beeching reversals which are so popular around the country and so right, and he can expect an outcome in the summer”.
Jack Brereton MP said:
“I’m very grateful to the Prime Minister in answering my question, and of course refocusing Government attention towards Stoke-on-Trent in the first place. I find people across Government increasingly willing to listen and respond to the huge opportunities and potential we have in Stoke-on-Trent.
Improving our transport locally with better rail and bus services is a top priority for me and I will continue to fight for the investment our city needs.”
