North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust recently welcomed Jack Brereton, MP for Stoke-on-Trent South, to its Harplands Hospital site in Stoke-on-Trent.
Jack was met by Dr Buki Adeyemo, Combined Healthcare’s Interim Chief Executive, and other senior members of staff before having a tour of the current building phase of the Trust’s multi-million pound Project Chrysalis site at the hospital.
Project Chrysalis sets out to further improve the inpatient facilities and patient experiences at Harplands Hospital. Jack visited the new 16-bed ward that is being built in Harplands Hospital, with individual en-suite bathrooms, assisted bathrooms, a gym facility and more.
The interior decorations of the new ward are being co-designed with service users to ensure the space, garden and facilities on-site are inclusive and welcoming to them.
Jack also toured Ward 6 for older people with complex needs, where he talked to service users and found out more about the Ward’s on-site salon where patients can now receive support to have their hair both cut and styled.
The tour of Harplands Hospital concluded with a visit to the Crisis Care Centre, which provided Jack with an overview of the All Age Access service on the 24/7 helpline and self-referral process of walk-ins to the Centre.
Jack Brereton MP said:
“I was pleased to visit the Harplands Hospital to meet with Dr Buki Adeyemo and her team, as well as the contractors overseeing Project Chrysalis. It was great to see the progress they are making building their new inpatient ward which will offer state of the art mental health support to people locally when it opens in spring 2023.”
“This is a huge new investment in our local NHS mental health facilities and will create a new ward with en-suite beds to ensure people in Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire get the best possible mental healthcare available. It was also fantastic to speak with a number of the nurses and other NHS staff whilst visiting and to see the fantastic care they are providing to patients."
Dr Buki Adeyemo, Interim Chief Executive, North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust, said:
“We thank Jack for visiting us and touring Harplands Hospital, as well as finding out more about Project Chrysalis, a significant piece of transformation work at the Trust.
Project Chrysalis represents a significant opportunity to reconfigure and improve our inpatient facilities on the Harplands Hospital site having receiving national funding to eradicate dormitories and improve service user facilities across our inpatient accommodation.
The visit was a fantastic opportunity for our hardworking staff on Ward 6 and in the Crisis Care Centre to be able to showcase what they do every day to Jack.”
Overall Project Chrysalis works are scheduled for completion at Harplands Hospital in 2025.
