Jack was thrilled to receive a letter from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), announcing that the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust is receiving grants totalling £1,137,000. This will allow them to further strengthen the great work they do locally to support our important green spaces and wildlife.
The grants awarded are from the Government’s Green Recovery Challenge Fund which aims to support over 2,500 jobs, plant almost a million trees and increase nature recovery at a huge scale across the country.
The money awarded will go towards the project titled 'Wilder Stoke, Wilder Newcastle: connecting nature, connecting people' which was put forward by Staffordshire Wildlife Trust.
Julian Woolford, Chief Executive of Staffordshire Wildlife Trust, said:
“We’re thrilled to have been successful in both our bids. This will enable us to continue the vital work of connecting nature and people. We have some fantastic greenspaces in the county and we want to make them even better for wildlife - and we want more local people to get involved.”
Environment Minister, Rebecca Pow, said:
“The diverse and ambitious projects being awarded funding today will help environmental organisations employ more people to work on tree-planting, nature restoration and crucially, help more of the public to access and enjoy the outdoors.
“Through our £80 million Fund, we are on track to support over 2,500 jobs, plant almost a million trees and increase nature recovery at a huge scale across the country, which will help us deliver against our 25 Year Environment Plan.”
