Today Jack Brereton MP presented Mark Stanyer with a Levelling up Award which he recently won for the incredible work he has done to support young people. Organisations and individuals playing a leading role in levelling up Stoke-on-Trent have been nominated by Jack Brereton MP for awards backed by Britain’s leading businesses.
Mark was Principal and Ormiston Sir Stanley Matthew’s Academy for more than a decade and served the Blurton community as a teacher for over 28 years. He has more recently taken on the role of Regional Executive Principal and Ormiston Academies Trust, overseeing a number of schools in the region. Mark has dedicated his career to pushing up standards and raising aspirations of young people in Stoke-on-Trent. He has helped thousands of local people achieve their full potential and driven school improvement.
The Levelling Up Goals Awards recognises those committed to boosting opportunity and helping to level up the UK in the wake of COVID-19. MPs throughout the UK nominated organisations and individuals from their constituencies for the 14 different award categories which are focused on equality of opportunity at key life stages. Local nominees included Regional Executive Principle – Mark Stanyer of Ormiston Academy nominated by Jack Brereton MP.
The Awards have cross-party backing from Chancellor Rishi Sunak MP and Dame Margaret Hodge MP amongst others. The Levelling Up Goals Awards are Co-Chaired by former Minister for Public Health and loneliness champion Seema Kennedy OBE and Peter Gibson, MP for Darlington.
The categories are based around the ‘Levelling Up Goals’ launched earlier this year including Successful School Years, Health and Wellbeing and Closing the Digital Divide.
Local MP Jack Brereton said “I think it extremely important we show our thanks and appreciation to those who have gone above and beyond for our city and country. When I was asked to submit nominations for the Levelling Up Goals Award, I could think of no one more deserving than Mark.
“Mark Stanyer has helped thousands throughout his career in Stoke-on-Trent to achieve their full potential. Providing stability and strength for the Academy to drive up standards and now leading improvement across schools locally. I was pleased to hear that my nomination for Mark was successful for the Right advice and experience category. I know that everyone in Stoke-on-Trent will join me in congratulating Mark and thanking him for all he has done and continues to do to support young people in our city.”
Mark Stanyer said: “I am extremely proud to be receiving this award on behalf of our academy for the work we did during the pandemic. It is recognition of the outstanding work all our staff at OSSMA have put in to ensure our community was able to face the challenges that this awful pandemic presented us with. We are at the heart of our community and worked tirelessly to ensure that no one fell behind and were able to access high quality support both academically and personally. Supporting our families with additional food on top of the government scheme was in our view an essential part of our “levelling up goal.”It is an honour to serve our community and we will continue to help build a better future for our young people.”
