Jack Brereton, Member of Parliament for Stoke-on-Trent South, and representatives from Stoke-on-Trent City Council have attend the opening of the Longton Medical Practice.
Since being elected in 2017 and during the COVID-19 Pandemic, Jack has been campaigning forcefully for improvements to be made with local primary care. The Longton Health Centre project has been led by the Stoke-on-Trent Clinical Commissioning Group in partnership with the City Council, following repeated calls for improvements to local health services from the local MP, other representatives, and community groups in the south of the city.
The opening of the Longton Medical Practice is set to help reduce pressures on existing local NHS services, whilst providing residents with faster access to a wider option of healthcare. This will provide a range of GP, pharmacy and walk-in services for residents.
During the opening of the first phase of the new medical practice, Jack, along with representatives from Stoke-on-Trent City Council, including City Council Leader Cllr Abi Brown and the Lord Mayor, and representatives from the CCG, were given an informal tour of the medical practice. Representatives were able to see first-hand the new facilities that will be on offer to residents.

Over the last few years, a huge amount of work has gone into ensuring this project goes ahead so it is fantastic to see this first phase opening today. I would like to thank local Councillors and the NHS who have worked with me to get the healthcare we deserve right at the heart of the community. The pandemic has had a big impact on primary care in our area and I have raised my concerns in the House of Commons about the importance of fully restoring these important services. This first phase of the new Longton Medical Practice, along with its amazing team, will help deliver just that and I will now focus on delivering the second phase which will create the care hub needed to improve health services for everyone living in Stoke-on-Trent South.”
Jack has vowed to continue to speak with local health officials and health Ministers in Westminster to make sure Stoke-on-Trent gets the attention needed on health services are fully and ensure these are restored to pre-pandemic levels. This will prioritise the delivery of new integrated care hubs across North Staffordshire including on site in Longton next to the new medical practice. Jack will be working hard to ensure we get as much of the additional £36 billion now being invested in health and social care over the next three years spent in Stoke-on-Trent.
