Over the last few months, there has been a big push by organisations in Stoke-on-Trent to raise awareness of suicide prevention.
Staffordshire Police, Stoke-on-Trent City Council and the charity Brighter Futures have all teamed up to spread awareness.
Jack Brereton MP said:
"We constantly talk about the need to look after our physical health, but our mental health is just as important. Our closest relatives or friends could be struggling and without talking to each other we would never know. It is important that we communicate with each other and help one another when it is needed.
The COVID-19 pandemic has added further pressures onto us all and some more than others. Whether you help someone you know or a stranger in the street, those who need help need to just say something."
If you are experiencing suicidal thoughts, struggling to cope or in emotional distress, you can contact the Staffordshire Mental Health Helpline on 0808 800 2234. Lines are open 24/7.
